You want to know the best way to eat delicious fall apples? It’s when they’re baked and coated in a buttery cinnamon crumble and then topped with ice cream & caramel sauce of course! So what is an apple crisp? An apple crisp is a dessert made with a streusel topping composed of oats and brown sugar spooned over chopped apples. Only seven ingredients and takes less than an hour! Bon appetit!
How To Make Fall Apple Crisp:
Ingredients
- tart apples: apples are a must for an APPLE crisp
- lemon juice: keeps the apples from browning, and adds great flavor
- brown sugar: for sweetness
- old-fashioned oats: for the crumble on top, and texture
- all-purpose flour: structure
- ground cinnamon: for that warm fall flavor!
- salted butter: binds the crumble and coats the apples in a buttery goodness
Step 1: Prep the Apples
Peel, core, and slice 6 medium apples, (I used honey crisp apples.) Toss them in the lemon juice, and place in a greased 10 inch cast-iron skillet, you can also use an 8×8 dish or double this recipe and bake in a 9×13 dish. My new favorite fall snack: Apples coated in lemon juice, soooo good! The tart crunchy apple coated in the lemon juice brings out the sweetness and it’s a dessert in itself!
Step 2: Make the Topping
Mix all of the dry ingredients: flour, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon in a medium size bowl. Work in the cubed butter with two forks or a pastry cutter until small clumps of butter are coated in the dry mixture. Spoon over the apples in the cast iron skillet or dish of your choice.
Step 3: Bake & Assemble
Bake the prepared apple crisp in an oven set at 375 F for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm with an optional, but highly recommended, scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce!
