Ingredients

  • 6 medium (6 cups or 540g) tart apples peeled, cored, sliced
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 1 cup (100g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup (70g) uncooked old-fashioned oats
  • ⅔ (70g) all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp salted butter cubed
Optional
  • vanilla ice cream
  • caramel sauce

Method

  1. Heat oven to 375°F. Grease 10 inch cast iron skillet with 1 tbsp butter; toss apples in lemon juice then pour apples in the bottom of the greased skillet.
  2. Combine brown sugar, oats, flour, and cinnamon in a large bowl; cut in remaining 9 tablespoons of butter with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  3. Serve warm with optional (but highly recommended) ice cream and caramel sauce. Enjoy!
